As SITE Staffing concludes its last and final tour for this year’s Giving Letter nonprofit highlights, we were honored to visit Ronald McDonald House Charities® Eastern Wisconsin, a place that truly embodies compassion, comfort, and community. Our tour was led by Angela Amborn, Marketing Manager, whose passion for the organization’s mission was reflected in every story she shared.
Ronald McDonald House Charities® is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential services to families with seriously ill
children while they receive medical treatment. The House located in Milwaukee is designed to feel like a true home away from home, offering 84 private guest rooms, nine fully equipped kitchens, and warm, welcoming common spaces where families can gather, play, and support one another during difficult times.
One of the most impactful elements of the House is its open-concept design, which places a strong emphasis on choice. Families are empowered to decide what toiletries they need, which Christmas gifts their children will receive, and how they navigate their daily routines. This intentional approach restores dignity and independence during a period when families often feel they have little control.
Our visit coincided with a joyful initiative currently underway; RMHC® Eastern Wisconsin’s “12 Days of Cheer.” Now through December 24, the House is hosting daily giveaways to bring light and warmth to the holiday season. From cozy pajamas to toys, crafts, and other thoughtful surprises, each day offers a bit of magic designed to spread joy and lift spirits for families staying at the House.
Angela also shared something she wishes more people knew: RMHC Eastern Wisconsin is its own independently operated 501c3 charity, deeply connected and reliant upon the local community. The House thrives because of individuals who donate their time, talent, and treasure. A team of 425+ volunteers help prepare meals, maintain common spaces, organize activities, and, most importantly, create a welcoming environment that reminds families they are not alone. Their dedication is a powerful example of how local support can make a lasting difference.
One of Angela’s most memorable experiences comes from watching children grow and families return over the years. These continued connections create a unique sense of happiness and belonging. It’s proof that the Ronald McDonald House is more than a place to stay; it’s a community built on care and compassion.
